What is the difference between domain aliases and 301 redirect?

with Action you can have an unlimited number of domains pointing to a single web
site.

For example, if you have the domain "mydomain.com" set up as an
alias to the hosting account for "myotherdomain.com," anyone browsing to
"mydomain.com" will go to the "myotherdomain.com" Web site.

With 301
redirect, the Web browser connects to one Web server hosting "mydomain.com", and
that Web page redirects the browser to another server hosting
"myotherdomain.com".
Note: Using
Domain aliases can have a negative impact on your site raking in many search
engines and thus you run the risk of losing a lot of traffic from visitors to
your site who follow a search engine link. To avoid this you can use 301
redirect which is also supported by Action. Search engine spiders will transfer
your page rank and update any back links to the old page onto the new page when
you use a 301 redirect. The code "301" is interpreted as "moved
permanently."

For more information see "What is difference between domain
aliases and 301 redirect?" also for information on how to set up domain aliases
for your account please see "Setting up Domain Aliases?".

A domain ame server is the internet equivalent to a telephone book. A domain
name server maintains a directory of domain names that match the IP address of a
web server. The information from all the name servers across the internet is
stored in a central repository.

This makes it possible for people across
the internet to access your web site using a familiar domain name, instead of
having to remember a series of numbers (IP address).

It usually takes
about 4-8 hours for .com and .net domains and about 24-96 hours for all other
domain extensions before name servers on other networks are able to access the
information after the central repository is updated. This period is referred to
as the propagation period.
